Grace is a Living Thing

Have you ever marveled at God’s “secret messages” in nature?

Dogwood trees in assorted sizes and shapes

How the Dogwood blossom resembles the cross… in it’s center a cluster like a crown of thorns, with a  leaf turning crimson in the fall, reminding us of the Blood shed for all.

How when we crack open a sand dollar…out pours five pieces that look amazingly like tiny white doves.  Five, the biblical number for grace… A STAR… a humble birth… suffering… Resurrection… and Grace.

Oh, I love how He does that.

Especially finding …as I’ve been learning lately…how awesomely He has hidden His messages in the original Hebrew meaning of words and names for us to uncover in His Love Letter (The Bible).

Richness in layers, like rainbow-jeweled threads in a Tapestry Artist weaving…

These past years, I’ve loved discovering that His indefinable character and heart, for example, are declared as though in code in the meaning of His various Biblical names:  Jehovah Jireh, our Provider.  Jehovah Shalom, our Peace.  Jehovah Rophe, our Healer.   Jehovah Nissi, our Banner and Warrior Deliverer… the beautiful list goes on and on.

Then, today, my eyes widened and I could feel the OH…nearly before it slipped out from my lips… as I listened to a wondrous teaching of the hope God surreptitiously wove into what has always seemed to be a skip-chapter for me… the genealogy.  Miracle and mystery, right there in Genesis Five…Here is what he* explained as the Hebrew/English meaning of each name as they appear there:

Hebrew………………………………………………………………..English

Adam……………………………………………………………………..Man……

Seth………………………………………………………………………Appointed

Enosh…………………………………………………………………….Mortal

Kenan……………………………………………………………………Sorrow

Mahalalel…………………………………………………  The Blessed God

Jared……………………………………………………….Shall Come Down

Enoch………………………………………………………………….Teaching

Methuselah………………………………………His Death Shall Bring

Lamech……………………………………………………………….Powerful

Noah………………………………………………………………………….Rest

Man (is) appointed mortal sorrow, (but) the Blessed God shall come down, teaching (that) His death shall bring Powerful Rest.

Awesome and majestic, as only He is.

For there it is.  God’s heart…His very plan of our redemption… written into the meaning of  every name, every word breathed with purpose in the Bible.  Put them together, and they pour forth His story and promise of Eternal Love and Mercy…

His glorious word to us…  Take your rest in ME.  For I have paid… even overpaid…for your light and life and healing.  Only accept My gift…

And how His heart delights in leading US to follow HIS heart.

Teaching us… wooing us… to give grace and forgiveness and mercy to each other…

…Just like our Father.

And…maybe…just maybe… He is whispering His code into our hearts even now.  Through our dreams.  In His word.  In songs, sung just to us.

Listen…  what do you hear?

This is beautiful. I am delighted to find these gems you are sharing to us Pam.

It makes me feel like Nancy Drew, who has solved a mystery. I like the salvation story in the order of those names. Praise be to God, He really is the Mysterious God, full of grace and He is just there for us, waiting. That we might discover those things He has hidden, and then find the meaning fully and accept them like gems in our life.

I pray for those whom He will touch by reading this post, in His mighty and gracious Name. Amen.

    • Thank you, Lolita. Yes, like a detective finding gems! It is just so amazing to me each time I hear a minister teach from the true meaning in the original language. It gives such depth. And things like this are incredible to me! 🙂 I love that He tells us in the Word too that if we seek Him, He will MAKE Himself known to us. So beautiful.

Yes, and when we do, we find….. as He says in Jer. 33:3, “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”… and shows us more things not yet known.

It is displayed in the Sand Dollar mystery. Thanks for sharing because I am not too informed about these beautiful sermons.

        Please send me some links.

Oh, yes, Pam, I DO marvel at the “secret” messages in Nature. When I am outdoors, I am surrounded by God, Himself, in every living thing around me. And the true meaning of names and words in Scripture….as they are illuminated to my heart, I soar!

This was an awesome post, Pam. Thank you!

  3. Lolita… I sent you some link info on e-mail… 🙂
