Day 13: Immeasurably More Than All We Ask

Sea of Galilee, Israel

Surely he took up our pain
    and bore our suffering,
yet we considered him punished by God,
    stricken by him, and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our transgressions,
    he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.

~ Isaiah 53: 4-5 NIV (Italics, mine)

Prayer:

The following prayer is for someone on my heart right now as he prepares for extreme surgery this Friday, August 30th.  I would love for you to join hands with all of us who are lifting him up expectantly in hope, faith, trust in our Lord and His healing promise.

As he said to many friends and loved ones last night, he knows his distant hospital room will be “crowded with all of you who are praying,” for he is indeed…surrounded by a mighty cloud of prayer.

May these words also breathe blessing into all that you are lifting up in your own life…

Father — God of what seems Impossible (El Shaddai), Healer (Rapha), Provider (Jireh), Strength when we have none, God our Peace (Jehovah Shalom) — I praise and lift up Your Holy Names that tell us who You are.  Names that so wondrously make manifest Your Will on earth as it is in Heaven!

Today, reading 1 Chronicles 14:9, You show me one such picture of who You are.  How in this passage, the enemy planned a surprise attack against King David, hoping and devising his sure demise.  It reminded me of this stealthy attack that has come on E. in much the same way….for literally he was celebrating his birthday one moment, seemingly as healthy and strong as ever… and the next, insidious disease made itself known as having been lurking unawares.   As David turned to you upon uncovering his enemy’s plot, so has E…

Now the Philistines had come and made a raid in the Valley of Repahim.  David asked, ‘God, Shall I go up against the Philistines? And will You deliver them into my hand?’

And just as you answered David, I believe You are saying to E. and to all of us who are lifting him up to your healing:

And the Lord said, ‘Go up, and I will deliver them into your hand.’

For O Lord, in this passage, You reveal another one of Your majestic names to me!  Here, in the very next verse, the amplified version makes it clear – when our enemy is plotting our destruction — You are the God of the Breakthrough!

So (Israel) came up to Baal-perazim and David smote (the Philistines) there.  Then David said, ‘God has broken my enemies by my hand like the bursting forth of waters.  Therefore they called the name of that place                                                    Baal-perazim (Lord of breaking through).

Oh, God, in the same way, I thank You that You go ahead of E. in his battle against his “Philistines” this Friday.  You have already “broken his enemies… like a bursting forth of waters!”

To many it may seem impossible.  But… You are there already.  You are covering him, behind him and before him.  Thank You for Your word that tells us You took E.’s suffering and pain on the cross!  In that moment, every pain, every sorrow, every illness ever to try and plague anyone (including what E. is going through now) was on Your body, suffered and paid for in our place!  Not a symbol – but a reality greater than anything that may seem real at this moment!

Because of that, I know… You have already been there in E’s surgery in that cross moment 2,000 years ago.   The blustering, worrying  “Philistines” that threaten E. are already conquered once and for all in You.  You have put them under Jesus’ feet… and enabled E. and each of us who trust You  to stand covered now in Jesus and His blood!

What a wondrous word it is that Your punishment, borne for us, brings us — PEACE!

O, Father, that is why I know and believe You are already enveloping E. in that peace that passes all understanding!  And when he goes into that surgery room, Your Peace is His covering and ours!  And that is why… I also believe… as You tell us again and again in Your Word… E. is already healed by your wounds!

That is why I dare to pray and believe for healing that will astound the medical crew!

For Your Hands on the surgeon’s hands, guiding every millisecond of that surgery!

For You to hold his heart, cleanse his blood, breathe life into his lungs, guard every cell and organ, bone and function of his body – throughout surgery and after.

For Your ministering angels to garrison him in every moment.  For healing beyond what seems possible!

By Faith, I join with all who lift him up to Your Healing Hands… to the Healing You already won for E. on the cross… to Your Word (Jesus) sent to heal him… to this bringing You Glory for Your Mighty moving on our behalf… to the promise You have put in my heart since his battle became known to us…

— Because You Live… because we are praying as You told us to, holding onto Your word and covenant promise, because this is the prayer that prays YOUR WILL BE DONE IN E. HERE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN (and no one is sick in heaven!) —

I pray and declare Your Word over E. – He will not die but LIVE,  and tell of all You have done for him, proclaiming Your Glory!

Oh thank You that YOU… The Lord Himself… go before E. and will be with him!  (Deuteronomy 31:8).  With St. Paul, E. and all of us who lift him up I pray:

Now to YOU who ARE able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to Your power that is at work within us, 21 to YOU be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! (Ephesians 3:20, 21)

Thank You for surrounding E. in songs of deliverance.  Like David…  E.  and every one of us give praise to You and call each victory of Your Hand in this …  Baal-perazim (Lord of breaking through)!

Amen.

Thought to ponder:

“I am the LORD, the God of all the peoples of the world. Is anything too hard for me?”  (Jeremiah 32:27)

I join you in prayers for E. The battle is the Lord’s and He is mighty to save and to heal. And may you, Pam, and all who pray for E, including those on this blog, be like King Jehoshaphat (also in Chronicles, ch 20), who took his position and stood his ground by standing still and saw the deliverance of the Lord! He neither feared nor dismayed, because he knew God was with him to fight this battle. One thing he and his men did do, though, was sing! They sang a victory song before the defeat of the enemies. May we all continue to pray and sing to the Lord on Friday, and stand still and watch the victory of the Lord!

  2. What power-filled words of Scripture you speak Pam for your friend–and then you extend it out for ALL who are suffering, struggling, pleading for relief! It helps to be reminded of all HE took upon the CROSS—for each one of us–because of a LOVE so huge, wonderful, and glorious.

Thank you for reaching deep into that loving heart of yours–sharing your Prayers for your Friend. All we need do is read this amazing reminder of HIS LOVE…..

Blessings to you my friend. martha
